The Commonwealth of Virginia is a state in the southern United States known as the “Old Dominion,” and the “Mother of Presidents.” Named after Queen Elizabeth I of England, who was known as the Virgin Queen, this commonwealth was one of the original thirteen colonies that revolted against British rule in the American Revolution. Virginia is bordered by West Virginia, Maryland, the District of Columbia, Chesapeake Bay, the Atlantic Ocean, North Carolina, Tennessee, Kentucky, and West Virginia. The per capita personal income was $35,477 in 2004. |
