 Introduction
South Dakota is a Midwestern state in the United States known as the “The Mount Rushmore State,” and “The Sunshine State.” South Dakota was admitted to the Union on November 2, 1889. South Dakota is bordered by North Dakota, Nebraska, Iowa, Minnesota, Wyoming and Montana. The gross state product of South Dakota was $29.4 billion as of 2004. The per capita personal income was $26,894 in 2004. 13.2% of the population is below the poverty line.
