 Introduction
Hawaii became the 50th state of the United States on August 21, 1959 and is known as “The Aloha State”. It is situated in the North Pacific Ocean, 2,300 miles from the mainland. In 1898, Hawaii was annexed to the United States of America and attained statehood in 1959. Hawaii is the southernmost state of the United State. Hawaii's tallest mountain, Mauna Kea stands over 13,000 feet. Tourism has been the largest industry in Hawaii. The per capita income for Hawaii residents was $30,441 in 2004. Food exports include coffee, macadamia nuts, pineapple, livestock, and sugar cane.
